Back in my day, we made the most delightful dessert bars that were so rich and gooey, you couldn’t resist them! The crust was flaky and just perfect to hold that smooth, sticky filling. These sweet treats will satisfy anyone's sweet tooth, that’s for sure!


Ingredients:


For the Crust:

  • 1 package of yellow cake mix (dry)
  • 8 tablespoons of melted butter
  • 1 egg

For the Sticky Layer:

  • 8 ounces of cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 16 ounces of powdered sugar

Directions:


1. Preheat the Oven:
First thing, we need to get the oven going. Set it to 350°F. Grease your 9x13-inch baking pan with a bit of butter or oil. Back then, I always used butter from the churn!

2. Prepare the Crust:
In a medium-sized bowl, combine that dry cake mix, melted butter, and one egg. Stir it up until everything is well mixed. Then, press this dough evenly into the bottom of your greased pan. It should cover the whole bottom, nice and firm.

3. Make the Sticky Layer:
Now, in another large bowl, beat that cream cheese until it’s smooth as silk. Add the beaten eggs, and keep mixing for a few minutes. Little by little, add in the powdered sugar until everything is blended nicely.

4. Assemble and Bake:
Spread the sticky layer right on top of your crust. Put it into the oven that’s already warm and let it bake for about 25 to 30 minutes. Don’t leave it too long—these bars should be golden but still soft in the middle.

5. Cool and Slice:
Once they’re done, let them cool in the pan completely before you cut them into squares. This part takes patience, but it’s worth it!

Now, sit down with a cup of coffee or a glass of cold milk, and enjoy! We used to make these bars for family gatherings, and they always disappeared faster than you could blink!
